Youth and Community Work
Stella Dadzie's work to support good race equality practice in Youth Work
has resulted in three important publications. Projects include:
-
VISUAL REALITIES: An Anti-Racism Guide for Teachers & Youth Workers [Camden Race Equality Council, 1999]
In 1999, Camden REC funded a project to develop a resource for local schools
and youth workers, to be produced by young people themselves.
Trained by RAW MATERIAL, a community-based media project, local young people
developed and produced a video, entitled VISUAL REALITIES.
Stella Dadzie evaluated the project and developed the accompanying teaching resources.
-
BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS/ BEDE HOUSE ASSOCIATION [Sept 93 - Aug 96]
Consultancy involving research, training and evaluation of the Bede Anti-Racist
Detached Youth Work Project which was spearheaded by the Bede Association, a
voluntary organisation based in Bermondsey, South East London. Working alongside
a team of detached youth workers, Stella's role during its three-year lifespan was
to identify ways of working with potential and actual perpetrators of racial violence
in the area. BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS: An Account of the Bede Anti-Racist Detached Youth
Work Project was published by the National Youth Agency in July 1997, and has been
highly acclaimed.
-
LB GREENWICH/ RACETRACKS: A Resource for Tackling Racism with Youth People [1991-93]
In the aftermath of the murder of several black youths in the area, this project involved
working alongside a team of detached youth workers to develop their confidence to tackle
racist attitudes alongside their competence to encourage access and participation by
Black young people in local youth services. The outcome was 'RACETRACKS' - a practical
resource that, fifteen years on, is still used widely by youth services around the country
